In 2019, employee retention is critical. It's always been important, but today's employment environment makes is crucial. The number of employees who voluntarily quit their jobs is higher than it's been in years! The options for candidates are endless. One of the best strategies for employee retention is development. Do your current employees have a developmental pathway?

Hire a Controller

One of our current clients was in need of a Senior Bookkeeper, Controller, or Financial Executive. You see, their small business is growing rapidly. And, strategically, the leadership team is continuously reviewing current and future needs. Hence, the spectrum of accounting roles spanning two businesses. Ultimately, through partnership, we decided an Assistant Controller was the best course of action. Someone more advanced than a Bookkeeper, with the runway to develop into a company leader.

The Details.....

The Client's Need:

A general contractor in the Seattle area was seeking an Assistant Controller who could handle the nuances of construction. Ideally, this person has the potential to grow into a Financial Executive as the company continues to expand. Our partner required an individual skilled in a specific online software. Additionally, the right candidate has a very direct communication style to guide the team appropriately and translate data succinctly.

TruPath's Strategy:

This Assistant Controller search involved a two-part strategy involving a hunt for hard skills and the assessment of soft skills. First, the TruPath recruiters searched for hard skills. They searched for construction accounting experience and online software experience. Second, the recruiters conducted in-depth interviews to assess soft skills such as communication style. TruPath recruiters use behavioral and situational interview questions for assessment.

The Result:

TruPath found an Assistant Controller candidate who had a variety of accounting experience in different environments. This experience exposed her to construction accounting and the correct online software. She is very honest, clearly describes workplace situations, and confidently and continuously communicated with her recruiter to ask for or provide information. In addition to being a good fit for the role, the company was an ideal fit for her. She is very happy to work in a new environment with a caring company culture that supports growth and development.
